In less than a month, I turn 29 years old and for many years I have been saying that I wanted to start a bucket list. I’ve got this crazy idea to complete 30 things to do before I’m 30. I don’t want it to be like the a normal bucket list, so no buying houses, having kids or anything like that. Even calling it a bucket list, I’m unsure about. I want it to be a fun things to do with the people I love, the things I love and things I’ve always wanted to do. Deciding on what this should include is proving more harder than I ever imagined!
It all started, when I was working in Disney, I went to see the movie Bucket List, one of my favourite films now. It stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, a fellow Fibromyalgia sufferer. The movie is about both characters getting a diagnosis, to give them a short amount of time to live. One night in hospital Morgan Freeman character, writes a bucket list, he scrunches up and throws it on the floor. Jack Nicholson picks it up he said that they should go ahead and do it. He adds other ideas including getting a tattoo and kiss the most beautiful girl. Whilst Jack Nicholson character loves it, Morgan Freeman says he’s trying to gain perspective over his diagnosis and what’s happening to him.
That’s the whole idea of setting out having a bucket list with the meaning of having “experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime.” Morgan Freeman says his University/College lecture asked them when he was studying. So throughout the movie they go off and achieve their bucket list. Here’s their list.
1. Witness something truly majestic
2. Help a complete stranger for a common good
3. Laugh till I cry
4. Drive a Shelby Mustang
5. Kiss the most beautiful girl in the world
6. Get a tattoo
8. Visit Stonehenge
9. Spend a week at the Louvre
10. See Rome
11. Dinner at La Cherie d’Or
12. See the Pyramids
13. Get back in touch (previously “Hunt the big cat”)
14. Visit Taj Mahal, India
15. Hong Kong
16. Victoria Falls
18. Ride the Great Wall of China
Whilst watching the film it got me thinking of the things I would want to achieve. I’m not a great believer of setting out life time goals, or having long term ambition. After watching Eat Pray Love, I think a three year or at a push a five year plan is more realistic. So I decided to have a list of things I want to do before I turn 30. Turning 30 for me is a pretty scary experience, I think I’ll be like Joey from Friends on the day, “Why God, Why?” It scares me for not having the things I thought I would have, the normal things people wish they would have being younger. Don’t get me wrong I’m 45% happy with my life at the moment, especially when my nephew Josh is close by. It is improving by the day.
So I now have to create my list, don’t get me wrong thinking about this over the years, its definitely changed and improved. One thing for certain I know I want to end up in Las Vegas around my birthday, dancing on the coyote ugly bar drinking a cocktail out of a boot and leaving a bra there! I have a tough decision to make…. but one I know I will enjoy and hopefully accomplish!! Keep reading to find out what it will include and maybe some from the Bucket List film.
