“Forgive, perhaps, forget never!”
For six years, we have been invited into the world of the Crawley family and household but on Christmas Day 2015 it came to a close. After getting to know both the upstairs and downstairs characters, it was a sad moment saying goodbye. Julian Fellows the writer did it so well keeping you going until the last moment. Over the six years, the show has had some moments which have made you cry, get upset or played with your emotion. Like other Downton Blogs, I thought I would say about my favourite things:
Favourite Outfit – Lady Mary’s Wedding Dress has to be the best dress / wedding dress / outfit throughout the show.
Favourite Scene – Having visited Alnwick Castle earlier in the year, I have a soft spot for the dining room scenes shot there. Mainly because the dining room is spectacular, from how they dress the table, to the portraits hung up and the amazing green chairs.
Favourite Character – The Dowager Countess of Grantham has always been a favourite, for her wit, sheer persistent in making sure her family is happy and her one liners. My favourite quote from her is “I hate to get news to second hand.”
Favourite Episodes – Although the series episodes have been amazing, through the war years, Edith’s baby trouble, I still think the Christmas episodes. Matthew’s Proposal, trip to the Highlands and the one in Alnwick Castle.
Favourite Quote – It’s a new one from the current scene, but sums up how you feel – “I’m not a romantic, but even I concede that the heart does not exist solely for the purpose of pumping blood.”
I think Downton Abbey has been a massive hit, a TV show you will still watch in the future, popular with visitors to Highclere Castle (one day!) and a talking topic around the dining room table. Thank you Downton Abbey and sincere goodbye from this Charlotte.
