Dry January – what’s the point?

So it’s the middle of January and as February is coming and almost upon us. Many of you have decided to do Dry January. Yet again another, January tradition where people want to become healthy, loose weight and detox due to the festive guiltiness they have. Why is it when it comes to January we all feel we should be on this health kick. People who do it feel extra smug about themselves. Personally I could do Dry January, but I’m not a quitter and life’s too short. I know the health benefits of been a moderate drinker, don’t binge drink, don’t mix and match and don’t over do it. Honestly, why do we need a marketing campaign to convince us to do Dry January? What’s the point of it? Some health benefit, a reminder for some people and a competition others have to win.  If you want to stop drinking, get healthy or fit, it shouldn’t just be at the start of the year but when you feel the time is ready. So to those people who are out there doing Dry January, good luck to you! I have to ask has the novelty ran out yet? To those feeling smug and that extra twinkle in their smile – I have a glass of wine and you have elderflower sparkling stuff – which one is more exciting to drink. I know which one I choose! Honestly, what’s the point of it???
