Food Festivals – Proper Food Fest 2016
On Twitter, I spotted a blogger from the North-East, re-tweeting about this a food festival happening in South Shields. Going home for the bank holiday weekend, I thought lets go. This particular food festival is running for the second year with four different locations. It runs over three days, from 10am to 5pm and is free for all guests to visit.
Turning up on a breezy Sunday afternoon, the car parks locally were busy. Taking place in a park it has four rows of stalls and on the outskirts lots of hot food to try. The stalls had everything from chocolate, to eggs, to chilli sauces, to gourmet rock salt and smoked fish hummus. The hot food stalls included a German sausages, Mexican food, snow cones, The Northumbrian Food stall and a Pimms stall. There was a music performers, playing music and entertaining the large crowds. They had inflatables and a small teapot ride to keep the kids happy.
Walking around the stalls it had the usual stalls with lots of choice to choose from. It was nice to see local businesses and supporting them, which gave me a feel good factor. Businesses including The Geordie Banger Company, Gingerbread Mam, Stateside Chocolate and Le Mini Macaroons. Walking around we purchased sausages, ginger puddings, brownies, jams, rock salt and a Gin and Tonic flavour macaroon.
Overall walking around, I thought it was one of the better food festivals locally in the North-East. Having lots of variety of stalls, to purchase and take home and eat whilst walking around. Atmosphere of kids running around, music played in the background whilst eating and drinking is perfect. The weather was cold but it was worth it. Definitely would think about going to other ones.
