Restaurant Review: Forrest Gumps
Spending the day in London on a training course I arranged to go out to dinner afterwards with a friend. We went into Leicester Square, decided to go for dinner at Bubba Gumps. Inspired by the movie Forrest Gump, stating Tom Hanks who famously says Life is like a box of Chocolates. This US seafood chain restaurant opened in London in October 2014 but I knew it from living in Florida.
Styled like a seafood shack house in America, with quotes, pictures and memorabilia on the walls. You walk upstairs to see a giant poster of Tom Hanks as Forest Gump. Greeted by a waiter, she showed us to our seats and explained the sign. She told us if we wanted our waiter to stop to flip the sign to say Stop Forest Stop, if we don’t need them keep it as Run Forest Run.
Flicking through the menu, I’d chose the Forest’s Seafood Feast, delicious southern fried shrimp and hush pups which melted in my mouth. It came with a mountain of fries, which I could not finish. Knowing I wasn’t driving home, I opted for a Solarita which is a Margarita and Sol beer combined. Very refreshing and delicious. Having the same, he went and ordered the ribs and fries, which did not get finished.
Before even placing the order the server came and asked us questions about the movie Forrest Gump. Not seen the movie for a long time, we struggled to ask them. Like what three sports did Forest play? How many Dr Pepper’s did he drink before meeting the president? Food and drinks were served quickly. It was nice not having to catch the eye of the waiter all the time.
Overall, just like what I remembered when in Florida. I wouldn’t dash back, but it was nice to know I’ve been there and had some food. Based next to China town in the heart of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square you can see why it’s popular with tourists.
