PYO at Gray’s Farm, Wokingham
I wrote a blog called Things I like to do when summer is here…. I said one of my favourite things to do is to go fruit picking. Talking to my sister Sarah, I said on my actual birthday I was happy to do anything as long as my nephew’s were happy. On the day Sarah said let’s go fruit picking at Gray’s Farm.
Gray’s Farm is situated in Wokingham, it spreads across 65 acres of land offering the chance to pick a wide a variety of fruit and vegetables. The fruit include 6 different kinds of strawberries and 7 different kinds of raspberries, it also has redcurrants, blackcurrants, spinach, courgette, marrow, brussel sprouts and lots more on offer to pick. It has a farm shop, where you can go buy the ingredients if you don’t have the time to pick your own.
On the day we went it was filled with families picking, enjoying the hot sun, playing on play equipment or walking down the farm trail. We arrived, went and bought a basket to keep the fruit in, which Joshua loved to carry. At first Josh was a bit unsure on what was happening, but as soon as he realised there was food involved he was quite happy. Grays Farm has a policy like most pick your own, you can taste the food but don’t feast.
As my nephew’s get older it will help them with learning where it comes from, the variety of food and vegetables and what I loved the most what you do with it when you get home. Josh wasn’t a fan of fruit, but as he went on he tasted and liked the sweetness of the fruit. As a lover of food, I think its perfect to get my little nephews involved and allow them to discover new foods by fun. I fully recommend it, it’s a lot of fun!!!
