Today I was out and about in large crowds. Waking up this morning, I felt nervous knowing that I was to spend the majority of the day dealing with crowds. I’m not a huge fan of crowds and been surrounded in an area where I can’t walk through it. I wasn’t always like this but it has got harder to cope with over the past few years.
I’m not the only one who suffers with this. The website Anxiety Guru says that this is a common problem with people suffering with anxiety and most can’t handle it. I’m determined to cope with it and find my own coping mechanisms.
I think why I can’t handle it is because of not having room to walk around. I’m quite unsteady on my feet, have issues with balance. I also don’t like when you have small children walking in large crowds, because they can stop without thinking it can put me unsteady on my feet.
I’ve realised that this is something that cannot change, not something I can avoid, so I have my own coping strategies. I thought I would share them with you.
Some people use safe people, someone who understand and go around with them. Out with family, I don’t think they understood, but using my own coping techniques it worked. I could handle the situation. Plus my theory is, they’re not always there, so you have to do it on your own that’s why I have these.
