Six reasons why I’m excited for the RBS 6 Nations to start…
So Saturday 4th Ferbruary at 3pm the RBS 6 Nations begins with Scotland vs Ireland and lasts until 18th March with the final two teams playing in Paris. From the title the six nations has six teams who compete including; England, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, France and Wales! It’s sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland hence RBS and lasts for seven weeks!
If you don’t know this already but I will be 100% whole heartily supporting Wales! Why you ask, well read here.
I thought I would share my six alternative reasons on why I love the tournament…
One. The tournament lasts seven weeks, with all matches live on the TV and pubs play the matches more often!
Two. The outfits, not only is it necessary to wear a rugby shirt, but men and women, have an excuse to have face paints, costumes and silly hats to show nationalism to their country.
Three. It’s not football (or the Olympics!) so you know all the players will sing the National Anthem! Great excuse, sing Cymru am Bath or the Green Green Grass of Home!
Do you remember this photo from the Rugby World Cup? Where Prince William is singing the Welsh national anthem in Welsh, Harry looks shocked!
Four. It’s a sportsmanship game… so all actions is made by the captain and settled on the pitch, unlike in football where the manager on the side controls the game.
Five. Rugby is played with real men, don’t have any padding on them, they don’t throw tantrums coming off the pitch or worry about getting injured or seeing blood.
One of my favorite quotes, trying to explain Rugby to Americans…
Six. I just love a good Welsh Scrum…….
In 2015, whilst searching for a job, I loved watching the Rugby World Cup, really enjoyed the game and learning about it. Since then I have watched Rugby and been a fan of it even more. Yes, I would love to go see a real match, but they cost a fortune, I ain’t got that atm! It would have to be Millennium Stadium, watching Wales! Currently I am loving watching this game from the comfort of home or the pub. Learning more about it each time and looking forward to it all starting on Saturday.
Do you enjoy Rugby? Who do you support?
