Ride a Segway!
In 2007, when working in Disney I got the opportunity to ride a segway and do a tour around Disney. It was a lot of fun…
Since doing this my mum has been saying for ages she wants to ride one. When it came to celebrating her 60th Birthday. I organised a tour for us to do, It was so much fun!
Instead of gong for the normal Go Ape, I chose another company. This one was more perfect as it was around a lake. The company I chose was Segway Events. I booked the segway on the internet, found a code to use, paid for it. I got an email confirmation saying I paid for it but nothing further. This made more problems on arrival.
The Windsor one is based on Bray Lake, as I’ve never been there before, I found it tough to find. The lake is set far behind and you have to drive down a path. However the signage is hopeless. If you were to go head for the Watersports Centre and then you’ll pick up signage. But be prepared to pay £5 to park. You can pay by card, in the shop.
On arrival you go to the hut, sign the forms and wavers to allow you to do this. You also get weighed as well, which was slightly embarrassing. Then you get padded up with knee and elbow pads and helmet. Yes they go up to an XL size in the helmet, yes that’s what I wore! Then it’s onto the demonstration from your tour guide. Your demonstrated how to use one, go forward and backwards, stop. I had a mini panic attack but did it. Afterwards you then go on around a little wooded area.
However I had a mini melt-down. I couldn’t get my balance to go around a tree. This meant having to come off the segway and compiling myself. Our leader came over, she was calm and asked me what was wrong. I said that I felt like I was bending over and my balance was straight. She said that was fine, common, easily fixed. I got a new segway, it was perfect and I zoomed off with a lot more confidence.
I would honestly recommend to say up, if you feel uncomfortable, shout and they’ll sort it. You won’t be the first or last one with an issue. Next it was then get some photos done, I do like ours, however I would go back and do some better photos. Pinterest ideas beforehand.
It was onto the 30mins experience off flying off into the woods. We went into the woods, got a tour around, then taught how to go up and down hills………. that was the best instructions!! I loved doing that. Would honestly keep on going.
Yes another one ticked off my bucket list. I loved it, would honestly go back and do it again. However, my feet hurt as it put a lot of pressure on the balls. I couldn’t walk quickly afterwards. My fibro kicked in with being stiff afterwards. Another thing I would do, is wear walking shoes and not trainers, massive fail! Take spare clothes too! Lucky for me I was heading off to Sarah’s so I could get changed quick. Overall a lot of fun, once found and there Segway Events were awesome to do this with.
As it’s a birthday present, just in case my mum reads this (Hi Mum) I’m not going to say how much it is, but check out Segway Events
